Mass Communication:

The world has witnessed a phenomenal and unprecedented explosion in communication technology and media. All boundaries have been transcended, and the entire global community seems to have been brought together into one unified whole. And it is here that mass-communication, as a stream of study, and as a career, becomes so important and enviable.

Why this field is just going to grow in the coming few years?
  • India’s population (read: masses) is growing @ 1.58% i.e 17% of world population is in India
  • The new media and social media is what reaches the masses the quickest
  • The number of channels per medium of audience reach have grown
  • From 2 TV Channels in 1990s, we have more than 500 TV channels in India
  • From 2 Radio frequencies, we have more than 10 radio frequencies in Delhi alone
  • Print is now diversified into specific finance newspapers, sports magazines, art and culture journals etc.

Eligibility Criteria for Mass Communication Courses:

Although the eligibility criteria will vary from college to college but mostly depends on the below mentioned factors:
Undergraduate courses: Mostly undergraduate courses only require the successful completion of Class XII from any board and in any stream.

Mass Communication in India:

Duration: 3years.
Admissions based on Entrance Exam / Merit majorly.
Students are tested on Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge & Media Awareness.

Job Prospects:

As is evident, the industry is doing quite well for itself and is predicted to do well for some years now. Students can look forward to working in public relations, television, films, publishing, journalism, editing, direction, etc. The thing to remember while applying to the industry is that people with strong people skills and a head for communication will be preferred any give day over others. The job requires the aspirants to be skillfulenergetic and also creative.
